Comparing 19th Century to The 21st Century

19th Century

All they needed for school was a bible, a slate board, quail pens, ink and paper.

21st Century

We need at least four notebooks, at least 4 folders , a big old binder, pens, pencils, a calculator, book covers and a dictionary.

We don’t need any of that stuff. However, a rather bring the stuff in the 19th century because it’s better then bringing all the stuff in the 21st Century. ( I wish we could just carry laptops)

  • My best post has to be “My Playlist” because I think everyone could comment on that post and that post has the most comments.

Year Of the Potato

Sorry this is almost 2 weeks late.

STUBC08

This Topic really stood out because I LOVE POTATOES!!

Here is some cool facts about the potato:

Did you know that there is more than 4,300 types of potatoes grown in the Andes?

China is the lead producer of potatoes.  They grow more than 72 million tonnes (80 million tons) a year.

More then 74,000 square miles are used to grow potatoes.

Did you know that they use potatoes in glue?

85% of the potato plant is edible.

THEY LIED!

Thanksgiving
IS IT REAL OR SHOULD WE START CALLING THIS BELOVED HOLIDAY FAUXGIVING?
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving a holiday that many Americans celebrate. The week of Thanksgiving My school has 2.5 days off.
On Thanksgiving every year I go to my Aunt’s house in New York. We have a huge feast including cranberries, stuffing, vegetables, pumpkin pie and best of all TURKEY!
Did you know that they most likely didn’t eat potatoes at the first Thanksgiving?
Historians believe that the Indians and the Pilgrims thought potatoes were poisonous.
Also there were no pies.
The Pilgrims used most of the sugar on the Mayflower and there were no ovens to bake them in.
There were no dairy protects because there were no cows in the nearby area.
They most likely didn’t eat turkey either.
The had lobster, deer, mussels, eel and even eagles. (When is the last time you had a nice juicy piece of eagle?)
People didn’t pass stuff they ate what was closest to them.
The food was placed by the most important people. (so all the food will be surrounding me) So if you weren’t important you didn’t eat.
The first Thanksgiving was most likely in October.
Thanksgiving used to be the third to last week in November until FDR changed it to the second so people would have more time to by holiday gifts.
Then congress changed it to the fourth week.

So go yell at your first grade teachers for lying to you to your face! (LOL JK)

Omg Twilight

I saw Twilight yesterday!

WARNING!! DO NOT READ PAST THIS IF YOU DIDN’T SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!

I liked alot of thing about the movie including:

The movie didn’t miss any of important details

All the male vampires were super hoties!! (even the bad ones ) B)

Mike was also super hot!! (he has the 2nd prettiest pair blue eyes)

Jessica, Mike and Eric almost exactly looked like I pictured them

I knew what some of the lines were before they said

The stuff I didn’t like:

Jacob’s hair wasn’t in a pony-tail

All the good music was during the credits

Alice only had like two lines

Edward didn’t take Bella to Prom in the The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish like in the book

They focused too much on the “bad vampires”

What did you think of the movie?

I Get It

My teacher wrote a blog post about me (yea!). When he told me this, my head  was going omg! He told me that he wrote a blog post on my letter to Obama.  When he presented the blog post to the class I started to get mad because the first statements were kind of negative. But towards the end it got so much better. Here is my letter:

President-elect Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Barack Obama,
Congratulations on winning the Presidency. I am really looking forward to the next four years. I’m really happy that we have a Democrat in the White House, instead of a Republican. I supported you from the start. As a student, education is a big issue for me.
We need to prepare students for the 21st century. How many student do you think know what a wiki is? How many of them do you think know how to set up a blog? What do you think is more valuable to know, how many square yards Canada is, or how to set up a video conference with students in Canada? I think we should stop dragging around backpacks filled textbooks and binders filled with hundreds papers. I think we should replace these school supplies with laptops. So many people use computers and the internet for so many different things. We use the computer to get information, post ideas, get publicity, to play games and many other things. Last year I spent about eighty dollars on school supplies. If I complete fourteen years of school I would have spent about $1120. The laptop I’m writing this letter on cost about $800. If I buy a laptop and use it for the fourteen years I would save about twenty-three dollars a year. Twenty-three dollars may not seem like a lot but in this struggling economy you need to find as many opportunities to save as possible. I think we should train teachers to teach students to prepare for the real world.
Thank you for taking the time for sitting down and reading this letter. I hope you consider some of this information.
Sincerely,

Katherine !@$^&

And here is the wonderful blog post about me!

Do You Recycle ?

My family recycles.

We recycle these items:

Metal

paper

and glass

We take all the soda cans to a redemption center.  We take all the papers tie them up and the recycling company takes them along with any other recyclable materials that are in our recycling bin.  STUBC08
